There’s nothing like discovering new parts of Ibiza, it doesn’t matter which time of year, the island boasts a plethora of breathtaking spots to be found and, each time you do so, you can’t help but feel a little closer to the place you call home. One of the best ways, we believe, to experience Ibiza through completely new eyes, is to join the experienced team at Walking Ibiza, who share a knowledge and understanding of Ibiza all year round. December offers a series of walks, depending on your preference, here are some of the highlights…
Wednesday December 20 is a ‘Short & Sweet walk’ into the valley, leaving San Joan at 10.00am. Starting at the Church in San Joan, join Sheila as she takes you into the hills, where you will be mesmerised by the views before heading into the valley of San Joan, where you can see the village on the far side of the island. The walk takes you along some wonderful forest paths, past old ruins and by many herbs, some of which have made it into Sheila’s cookbook, which is now available to buy, while you enjoy some of her homemade cake at the end of the walk. This is an easy walk that lasts about two hours.
Start the weekend on the front foot with the classic Friday walk on December 22. Join Toby for ‘Tunnel and a Curry’, leaving the sandy car park in front of Mariner’s Bar, Santa Eulalia at 10am. At the end of another week, what could be better that heading off to discover a secret tunnel, catching some spectacular island-wide views along the way before finishing up in Katmandu curry house for a wonderful curry. Couples, don’t forget to bring a padlock to attach to ‘Lovers Bridge’ to symbolise the longevity and security of your relationship and discover loads of hidden spots along the way. This is a medium rated walk that covers 10km and lasts approximately 3-4 hours.
Of course, Walking Ibiza is acutely aware of the season and on December 24, invites you to join in a special Christmas walk – ‘Mountain Hideaway’. Meeting at 11am on Sunday December 24 at the San Joan church, Toby takes you ‘off grid’ to a hideaway on top of Ibiza’s third highest mountain. Walking from San Joan on the old road before a gentle climb where jaw-dropping views and mulled wine await at the Mountain Hideaway. When it’s finished, the spot will be a place for walkers, mountain bikers and lovers of the outdoors to enjoy lunches, overnight stays, star gazing and those stunning views. After the walk, check out the San Joan market and join the team for lunch. The walk will cover 8km on good paths with some loose stones underfoot, taking approximately 3-4 hours.
