Villa Mercedes stands out from the typical landscape of San Antonio both in architectural and gastronomic terms. This stunning seafront villa was built in 1901, and now is converted into a multi-level gastronomic hub where culinary masterpieces are consumed, acoustic concerts are held and proposals are made. If guided here blindfold, you would never guess you are in the very center of San Antonio: the venue is a true oasis of sophistication, and the views on the harbour are one-of-a-kind.
Talking about the menu, Villa Mercedes is a grill haven – such grilled dishes as hake fish with leek sauce and carrot mash, beef skirt steak with spring onion mash and criolla sauce, John Dory with vegetable wok and citrus oil are always impeccable here. To begin with, order stuffed calamari with wild mushrooms, garlic, asparagus, edamame and teriyaki sauce; give a try to mozzarella salad with watermelon dipped in cinnamon and orange syrup; and don’t miss smoked salmon with herb butter and cereal toasts. Its own herb garden is a special pride of the restaurant.
There is a fully equipped bar in the open, but the best place to taste the delicious cocktails is the outdoor Morocco-style lounge with four-poster day beds. If the weather is being naughty, relocate to the covered part of the restaurant – the one that shows off the best view. Able to accommodate up to 180 persons at a time, Villa Mercedes remains open all year round.
