The road to San Juan has the reputation as being ‘the restaurant road’ of Ibiza. It’s here, among the bucolic hills and umbrageous trees, where Nagai is located – a high-end venue with immaculate Japanese cuisine, traditional Ibicencan design and genuine family feel, open since 2011. This place, equally ideal for vegetarians, seafood lovers and socialites, has a great vibrancy about it, and deserves to be called a true gem of the Northern part of the island.
Being stylish today means being healthy. Eco-conscious guests have a reason to rejoice: Nagai owners try to buy as local and organic as they can, volunteer at alternative healing events and regularly contribute to Ibiza Preservation Fund. Water is taken from their own well, vegetables and herbs – from their own permaculture garden, wines on the list are organic and bio-dynamic.
In Nagai they don’t stick to Japanese cuisine as a rule set in stone: sumptuous Mediterranean, Indian and Thai courses are also present in the selection. Mouth-watering rolls, sashimi and sushi in the menu sit alongside Tom yum and Tom kha, Gyoza chicken or prawn, Scallops with pistachio crust in miso and butter sauce, Spicy stir fried beef with vegetables Thai style, and Entrecote tataki marinated in herbs from Ibiza perfume. Depending on the fresh and seasonal produce, the menu is alive and changing here, and that’s for the better – who wouldn’t welcome a pleasant surprise to their fine-yet-relaxed-dining affair? In a nutshell, a must-go to every foodie’s bucket list.
