The Punta Arabi Hippy Market located in the stunning North of the island boasts many vibrant stalls, delicious food and drinks whilst offering a selection of the finest products to be sourced on the island. Whether you’re accompanied by friends or enjoying quality time with the family, a visit to this iconic shopping destination makes for a superb day out whilst experiencing the true essence of the oldest and largest Hippy Market on Ibiza!
Taking place on Wednesdays each week throughout the season, you will see more than 500 craftsmen and artists offering a variety of their most unique creations: real leather handbags, colorful fashion, unique crystal jewelry, natural cosmetics and original items brought from all different parts of the world.
This summer sees the institution celebrating its 45th anniversary. Dating back to the early 70’s, (and still holding on proudly to its authentic charm) when the market had only five stalls to its name, the weekly get together of artisans has come a long way from its humble beginnings of selling second-hand toys, fresh pastries and handmade woolen jumpers. Like today, the stalls back then were set up within the grounds of the well-known Punta Arabi holiday resort to offer guests the possibility to stock up on local wares and souvenirs.
Retaining its relaxed vibe, even during the busy summer months it feels like you are stepping back in time when entering the sprawling market place. Here you could be fortunate enough to meet and chat with a few of the original founding members of the hippy community, who are more than delighted to take you back in time with their interesting stories of Ibiza eras gone by, but not forgotten!
When your wardrobe has been sufficiently stocked up, you can treat your home to a chic boho look with a vast selection of products on offer such as handcrafted treats, African fabrics, and pictures from the regular photography exhibitions that take place here. Snap up a selection of tasty kitchen ingredients such as herbs, spices and high-quality olive oil, decadent hot sauces and authentic Hierbas Ibicencas – surely a must for a holiday tipple!
When you feel the need to take a break from the afternoon sun, make your way towards the tented entertainment space, where you can enjoy a delicious paella, fresh tortillas, a crisp glass of wine or a mojito from the cocktail bar. A dedicated children’s area is a delight for the younger members of the family and a chance for the adults to sit back and enjoy the live music performances taking place between 14.00 and 16.00, with styles ranging from Funk, Soul and Flamenco to Afro-Reggae. Punta Arabi Hippy Market takes place every Wednesday from 10.00 until 18.00, so be sure to make time in your holiday programme for this truly memorable day out.
