Pikes Ibiza, the illustrious and eccentric hotel tucked away in the hills outside of San Antonio, may be best known for its rock ‘n’ roll history, but the creative team behind the iconic venue has been working hard to diversify its cultural offering over the last few years. After introducing exciting pop-up gourmet experiences, jazz nights and art exhibitions, this September will see the quirky abode host its first literary festival.
Running over two days from Tuesday, September 11th until Wednesday, September 12th, the event is headlined by literary greats including Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh and will feature talks, author readings, discussions and delicious suppers in the sprawling grounds of the venue. Screenwriter and author John Niven (Kill Your Friends), Stephen Armstrong (The White Island), Matt Trollope (Mr.Pikes: The Story Behind the Ibiza Legend) and Neil Forsyth (San Carlos) are all set to participate, with Linda Quinn opening the festival with a two-part talk on ‘How to be a Writer’.
Other highlights to look out for over the two days are the ‘Ibiza Stories’ session, an in-depth discussion and book signing with Irvine Welsh followed by a screening of Trainspotting on Pikes’ famous tennis court, talks on ‘How to get Published’, and an interview session with the legendary Tony Pike, the man behind the celebrated hotel, himself. An open-mic ’Spoken Word’ event featuring all participating authors, further writers and spontaneous submissions on the night, concludes the Literary Festival.
As always, there will also be plenty of times to mingle around the hotel’s iconic poolside, enjoy expertly mixed cocktails from the Curiosity Shop bar and feast on head chef Lee Milne’s culinary creations in onsite restaurant Room 39. Tickets start from 10 Euros, with different options available depending on which day(s) you want to attend.
