Ibiza might be most famous for its stunning beaches, but a dinner in the island’s tranquil countryside is one of the most atmospheric and magical experiences you can have on the White Isle. Case in point: Nagai Restaurant Ibiza. Opening its doors six years ago, the Asian eatery is a culinary oasis that fuses authentic Spanish design features with Japanese influences, a romantic bar and garden dining space, good music and, of course, a mouth-watering menu.

Sake connoisseurs will be in seventh heaven as Nagai offers a well-curated selection of rice wines, as well as several creative cocktail concoctions made with the Japanese specialty. The Oriental Air, for example, combines sake with lychee and cranberry juice, while the Nagai Sakito offers an exotic mix of sake, vodka, Japanese cherry syrup, mint and soda. Those who love the finer things in life will also be delighted to find a variety of premium caviar varieties such as Beluga, the perfect decadent beginning to your evening teamed with a crisp glass of champagne.

Nagai is run by the passionate trio of Reina – whose surname the restaurant was named after – Eleonora and Melchior, popular faces amidst the island community who have turned their passion for Ibiza and premium quality Asian food into a foodie destination that wows with plenty of ambience and elegant but relaxed surroundings. An eclectic and chilled out Balearic soundtrack completes the experience as you dine underneath the starry night sky. For starters, we can highly recommend the light and delicate sea bream carpaccio topped with Kalamata olives and ponzu vinegraitte, served on a bed of crunchy zucchini noodles, or the addictive chicken gyozas, which, fried on the bottom and steamed on the top, are texture perfection on a plate.

A sharing platter of Nagai’s delicious sushi and sashimi selection is the perfect accompaniment for either your first or second course, but whatever you do, don’t leave without trying at least a few pieces. The delicate fish and perfectly prepared rice, as well as the colourful presentation, make it a feast for all senses, with the Crispy Salmon and Negitoro tuna roll being two stand-out options. The Chicken Katsu and the Turbot are both mouth-watering suggestions for your mains, while the delectable and tropical coconut panna cotta topped with exotic fresh mango and sharp grated ginger, and the Asian-inspired take on the classic Tiramisu made with Matcha tea powder, white chocolate and Amarettini biscuits are both irresistible afters.

Before you leave, why not peruse Nagai’s stylish fashion boutique, which will tempt you with everything from dresses to boots, jewellery and even lingerie. End the night with an Asian chupito of plum wine and we are sure you will put Nagai very high on your own recommendations list!
