It’s no secret that Ibiza’s culinary industry is thriving, with more and more renowned international names joining the local gastronomy scene every year. Amongst the big billboards and celebrity red carpet appearances, one dining concept that chooses to fly under the radar just enough to give it a bit of a ‘hidden gem’ vibe is El Clodenis, an imaginative and magical destination worthy to keep in mind for a special occasion. And instead of opening its doors for only 100 days like it has done in previous seasons, this year the arty cocktail bar, restaurant and party space is set to stay open all summer from Thursday, May 3rd onwards.

Located opposite the historic church of San Rafael and shrouded by thick hedges, from the outside El Clodenis, an old country house from the 18thcentury, looks unassuming enough. But as soon as you enter through what seems like a garden gate in the whitewashed walls, you know you have stumbled across something very special indeed. Once you cross the ambient courtyard and enter the main building, a sleek white bar space filled not only with premium bottles, but also contemporary art invites you to perch and sip on fine craft creations such as the Bendito Mezcal. The adjacent rooms have an urban edge, with graffiti and newspaper cuttings adorning the walls, and serve as private dining areas.

However, for romantics with a love of bohemian décor, the back garden is the place to be. Surrounded by gnarly trees and pink bougainvillea, and with a glowing statement pool at its heart, the elegant décor has a Moroccan touch, with oriental rugs covering the ground and colourful lights dangling from branches. A cute chiringuito bar takes pride of place on a mini man-made beach, completing the show-stopping setting.

Following the exclusive invitation-only opening on May 3rd, which will also serve as a showcase for the new menu – featuring fresh ceviche amongst other carefully created treats – El Clodenis will open every night from 20.30 until 24.00 For those occasions when you want to impress with your insider knowledge of the island and experience a culinary journey for all senses, this is one of the hottest tickets in Ibiza.
