The picturesque village of Santa Gertrudis – often described as the ‘Notting Hill’ of the White Isle and Icon Ibiza’s official island base – is well established as a gourmet destination thanks to its eclectic mix of cosy bars, chic rooftop terraces and the huge variety of international and Mediterranean cuisines to choose from. And last year, the opening of hip cocktail lounge and restaurant Gitano added yet another jewel to its crown.

As the beautiful venue is preparing to head into its second summer, it has already caught the attention of renowned travel bible Conde Nast Traveller, who named it as one of the best restaurants in a feature about Santa Gertrudis. And rightly so! With its white-washed building, flower-shrouded garden and ambiently lit terrace, Gitano instantly catches the eye when you stroll to or from the bustling church square.

Gitano Santa Gertrudis bar restaurant Lounging on colourful sofas and straw chairs or chatting in hidden corners illuminated with glowing candles, expertly crafted drinks in hand, you will find a stylish crowd dropping into Gitano Ibiza for cocktails or dinner any given day of the week. The bar specialises in potent and tasty mescal creations, such as the Flamingo; an intoxicating mix of mezcal, grapefruit, lime, fresh ginger, agave and licor de ginger. However, those who aren’t huge fans of the extended tequila family will find plenty of other tipples to enjoy.

The menu is equally alluring and offers a fusion of Japanese cuisine with South American influences. Guests can feast on colourful sushi creations, healthy yet exciting salads or fresh seafood and fish dishes such as seabass tiradito or tempura rock shrimps.

Last year, famous Spanish guitarist Gipsy Moreno and his son Cristian wowed with an infectious set, a rare opportunity to see the Gipsy Kings star in such intimate surroundings. Whether you are going out for a special meal with friends or want to impress a date, Gitano makes the perfect setting for a night to remember.
