The Best Ways To Explore Ibiza

Words: Olivia Ebeling

Think you know Ibiza pretty well already? Well, let us assure you that even if you’re a seasoned White Isle veteran, this stunning Balearic gem will still find ways to surprise you. Boasting a rich historical and cultural heritage, as well as incredible natural beauty, those delving deeper under the island’s skin will be rewarded with incredible sights and unforgettable experiences.

From discovering sacred caves on a hike to ascending one of Ibiza’s mountain ranges by horse, exploring hidden coves on a boat trip or taking in the White Isle’s breath-taking vistas from the skies during a hot air balloon ride, the opportunities – and adventures – to see the island from a different side are plentiful. We have rounded up the best ways to explore Ibiza this summer…

On Foot

Combine exercise with an adventure in the great outdoors and join a local walking group. Walking Ibiza founder Toby Clarke and his team love to share their wealth of local knowledge during the three weekly walks which can last anything from two up to four hours. From visiting the Stone Bridge in San Mateu to learning about the salt production – and search for flamingos – in Ses Salinas, there is a walk for every interest. Meanwhile, the Ibiza Walking Association offers private tours and expedition days that include high speed boat trips to secret beaches, cliff jumping, sea salt harvesting, drinks at lively beach bars for sunset – and more! If you are less keen to explore on foot, there is also the option to go on a vehicle-based tour to the best viewpoints of the island.

By Car

Live the American Dream on the White Isle by driving through the winding roads in a vintage Ford Mustang. All restored to the highest level from engine to paintwork, Zander Combe’s fleet includes a black Straight 6, a blue Stripe V8 289 and a red Convertible V8 289. Hire the vehicle of your dreams for a day out and enjoy the ride of a lifetime in comfort and style.

On Horse Back

If you love animals and want to explore the wilderness of Ibiza’s quiet North, a truly wonderful experience awaits at the Ibiza Horse Valley, a rehabilitation centre for abused and abandoned equines. Tucked away in a remote canyon in the natural park of Es Murta, founders David Capdevielle and Monique Tjon introduce each horse and its back story before matching it to the rider according to ability and personality. After grooming and tacking up the animal, the whole group sets off on a two-hour ride through the majestic forests and mountains of Ibiza. Suitable for riders of any age above 12 years and ability, it’s a touching and magical afternoon.

On Two Wheels

With its pleasant climate and varied terrain, Ibiza is the perfect place to get on yer bike! Whizz through rolling hills, fragrant pine forests and winding mountain roads on two wheels and exercise that beach body at the same time. Velo Club Ibiza can plan and lead rides to suit riders of all capabilities, from the casual cycle tourist to the experienced racer. Whether its road riding, cross country mountain bike tours or camino and gravel rides, discover parts of Ibiza that to the majority of the island’s visitors will remain hidden.

By Boat

Playa d’en Bossa, Salinas, Playa Ses Illetes… Ibiza and Formentera are home to some of the most famous and glamorous beaches in the world thanks to their pristine sands, crystal waters and five star beach clubs. But while it’s easy to stick to your old favourites year after year, there is a huge variety of lesser known bays and seaside eateries to explore. From thrilling speed boats to luxurious super yachts, Smart Charter Ibiza has the right vessel for every occasion, while the crew boasts a wealth of insider knowledge to show you their favourite hidden gems in the Balearic islands. Fly across the waters in style, before enjoying the breath-taking beauty of remote shores or tuck into fresh seafood in an authentic eatery.

From The Sky

What could be more memorable and breath-taking than exploring the White Isle on a hot air balloon ride, ascending into the clouds and floating above fields, farm houses and forests while taking in a stunning sunrise? Ibiza En Globo offers an aerial adventure that lasts around three hours including transfers. You will experience around 50 minutes of flight time including a ‘Baptism of the Air’ with a crisp glass of cava before returning to the ground to enjoy a light breakfast and receive your flight certificate. It’s an unforgettable dream come true and the perfect birthday surprise, proposal or a treat to yourself.
